• Downsizing

Moving is always an opportunity for considering what a person has and what one really needs.  I have moved a number of times in my life and so have become better at taking only what I really need.  The biggest downsizing was moving a couple of years ago, less my kids.  It’s amazing how much less stuff I had. Now I am looking at another change, to a much nicer location but smaller home.  Again it is time to reevaluate what really matters and what I can live without.  It is hard to make those decisions, but it is also healing in many ways.  Simplifying life is not a bad…

  • I will rely on Him

I used to teach a song to my Sunday School kids called I Will Rely on Him.  The song talks of all these life circumstances when we should be relying on God.  It was a message that I wanted my students to learn, even though it is a difficult one for me.  God continues to have to teach me in this area. I have been a teacher, but because of some circumstances out of my control, I don’t have a regular teaching job at the moment.  I have applied in multiple places and done all I could, but nothing has worked out.  Now that we are downsizing I have been…

  • My food

There was an interesting Scripture verse this morning, one that I had never really taken note of before from John 4:34 “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.”  These were Jesus’ words to his disciples.  Jesus is speaking of His own work that He came to earth to do – to save us from our sins. The words apply to us as well.  Just as we cannot get by without physical nourishment, so it should be equally imperative that we want spiritual food.  Without the nutrition that feasting on God’s Word brings, our lives are like one who is starving…

  • on eagle’s wings

I love Isaiah 40:31 where it talks about those that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength and shall mount up on wings like eagles.  Think of it – eagles soar at great heights.  How wonderful to be lifted up in such a way.  Let’s face it, when I try to do things under my own strength things often bomb.  When I try to go my own way and forget about God’s direction, trouble starts. I guess this week I am learning once again to put myself in God’s hands.  What I think should be the way I use my time career wise is not necessarily what He thinks…

  • Making changes

It’s funny how life can change in a week.  Not too many weeks ago we were reorganizing this house trying to make everything fit into its small storage areas.  We had purchased land over a year ago and wanted to build a house on it, but circumstances were such that building was not possible at this time.  Now, some things have happened in life where we realize that we need to just go for it and move out there.  No, we won’t be building our dream house any day soon, but we can purchase a modular home and be out there this summer. Now we are in a flurry of…
