Driving on auto pilot

This morning I had to take an unexpected run into the city for an errand which is about a half hour drive for me.  I didn’t sleep well last night and was kind of on the droopy side but the errand needed to be done.  I left early so the freeway wasn’t overly busy thankfully.

About half way through my journey I looked around and wondered how I managed to travel the last few miles without really paying attention.  Has that ever happened to you?  Someone the driving part of my brain kept going even though some other parts weren’t totally with it.  Thankfully I am safely back at home but it scares me to think what might have happened with my inattentiveness.

My spiritual life can get on auto pilot lots of times as well.  Somehow I go through my days without really focusing on my loving Saviour and all He has done for me.  I go about my daily tasks and forget to nurture the spiritual side of my life.  Sometimes it isn’t until something rough happens in life that I stop and take note of my need for God’s assistance in my daily life.

Driving on auto pilot is never a good thing – on the road or in life.  Hopefully I can do things to change that – starting with being thankful each day for God’s care and provision.
