• Snowfall

We had our first heavy snowfall of the season last night.  It is one of those things – I know it is coming.  There has never been a winter here totally without snow.  Some years, like this one, the snow is delayed; but inevitably I need to deal with shovelling and icy roads. I can dread the snowfall and curl up in my house and not go anywhere, but that’s not living.  I need to be nurtured in the faith at church, I need to buy food to survive, and I need to get out and be with family and friends.  If I let the snowy conditions paralyze me I…

  • Get Up and Go

My Bible reading this morning in the Gospel of Luke was about Jesus calling the first disciples.  Each time I read this account I am amazed at how the disciples stop what they are doing (their jobs – fishing, tax collecting) and head out to follow Jesus. If I was presented with the same situation I don’t…

Often lately I am more hesitant to do things as I am concerned that I will ache afterwards.  This tenseness doesn’t help nor does being wary.  I miss out on fun things because of my cautiousness. My Christian life can be like that.  How many of God’s blessings do I miss out on because I am reluctant to step outside myself into…

  • All Saints Day

Today is a day in the Church year where we remember those Christian brothers and sisters who have lived their life of faith and now are rejoicing in heaven. It makes me think of some of the many faithful Christians who have impacted my life over the years.  God has placed many in my life and they have offered me counsel and support and most importantly they lived their Christian faith by example. One of these was Paula.  At the time I met her I was a young mother who had just moved into a new small town.  She was in her seventies and a widow for the second time.…
