The “In” Crowd
Making connections – it is usually considered the way to success. We are told to get out there and find ways to meet people who are influential in our chosen profession, sport, or interest. Get to know them, find out what makes them tick, read what they read, attend events they attend – these are all strategies supposedly to lead to the goal we desire.
Most really successful people are able to use their connections to their own advantage. This “in” opens up doors to new opportunities and avenues for growth.
There are many days when I would like to have that magical “in” – that special connection that gets me what I want. Whether it is a job or a leadership position or whatever – having that inside track is seen as instrumental to success.
No earthly influence matters in my eternal well-being, however. I can have the greatest job, the fanciest house, the most influential friends, but if I do not have Christ, I have nothing. Consider this verse from Romans:
“in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (verse 37 NIV)
Note that this verse says “in” all these things. We are not outside them but in the midst of them. No matter what is going on in life, we have God’s sure and certain promise of salvation and as such we are already on the road to success. We win the battle only through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. He has conquered sin for us.
Another verse in Romans speaks a similar message:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28 NIV)
Again, Paul uses the words “in all things”. There is no time when we are outside the reach of God. He is there being our best connection. He leads us to life everlasting.
It’s not just eternity Paul is speaking of in the book of Romans. He tells us that God is working within us and within our situations. While we might not always understand His purposes for us in a given circumstance, we can trust that God has our best in mind.
We might not be with the “in” crowd or have the worldliest networks. We do, however, have the best connection around – our precious Saviour who opens the doors of heaven to all who believe in Him.
When your situation seems hopeless or things are not going the way you hope; hold onto the fact that God is there “in all these things”. You are never out of His reach.
