Who Is Telling the Truth?

Some days the media drives me crazy. Information on the same topic can have so many angles. It is difficult to determine which content is really the truth, if any of it really is. People are paid big dollars to put a particular spin on things to forward their cause, without a regard for what is true. Frequently things are blown out of proportion and cause havoc and confusion.

As I have been researching my health issues I find the same thing. Everybody has their own angle as to what is a good treatment or protocol for a particular ailment. There are so many ideas out there. How does a person find out what is the actual truth to what is beneficial?

I certainly feel confused. All the mixed messages I have been receiving create a great deal of stress as I try to wade my way through all the concepts, programs, and suggestions. I try to read reputable sources but even they can disagree.

In a world full of people and groups trying to promote their own agendas, we as believers in Christ can find the way strewn with encumbrances as we try to find the truth. There are many who would like to lead us astray. They can make the lies they believe seem enticing. How do we discern what is best?

Thankfully Scripture reminds us of this fact:

“God is not human, that He should lie, not a human being, that He should change His mind.” (Numbers 23:19 NIV)

God’s Word is truth, pure and simple. He does not try to coerce us into believing a certain way or acting in a particular fashion. God tells us what to do and how to do it. He promises to walk beside us as we make decisions and choices. He lays things out for us throughout Scripture. We can see the veins of truth thread throughout the Bible.

God doesn’t give us empty offers of help or prosperity. There are no quick fixes or crazy contraptions to buy for things to work out. His advice and guidance and are always the same – if we seek Him, we shall find Him. Every word, every time – the Bible is God’s true Word to us. We can trust in His faithfulness and integrity to provide us direction no matter what we face.

He is not trying to sell us the latest pill or gimmick. God’s Word is sure and simple – believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.

In Malachi we read:

“I the Lord do not change.” (Malachi 3:6 NIV)

In our racing world today where are pummelled with new products, methods, and ideas on a regular basis – change seems to be a way of life. But not with God. He is the same today as He was at the beginning of time.

When our heads are in muddle with information overload, we can rest assured that we will find God’s truth in His Word. We can take comfort that the God we worship and praise will always be the same. Things in this world might change but He will not.

How do we anchor ourselves to God’s truth? As He speaks to us through Word and Sacrament, we can look for the consistent threads of information the Bible provides.

In this day and age where ideas and thoughts can be instantly transmitted all around the world, we must be wary of what really is truth. Remember that God will not lead us in the wrong direction. We might think He doesn’t listen or care about what happens to us, but if we examine His Word, we find that just isn’t so.

We must be careful and mindful of the information we take in. Considering the source is imperative for our well-being.

For those who want to see the truth – God will provide it to those with open minds and hearts who are receptive to His gracious Word. May you find hope today knowing that God always tells the truth.
