Hope for Those Who are Seeking
An amazing app on my phone gives me the ability to see my husband’s location wherever he is. At this point in time, he works away from home and weekly must make the long drive back to his place of employment. I find it comforting to watch his journey and know that he is safe. As I watch the miles between us grow bigger, yet I find it reassuring to know I can find him when I want.
Sometimes I wish I had a device to mark the difference between myself and my Saviour. It would be nice to have some kind of warning bells to indicate that the space between us is widening. I want to know that my Lord is there and close at hand when I am in need.
The fact is, should I have such a device, I would soon find out that it is not God doing the moving. I might swerve in and out, but He stays constant and true.
Our amazing God is never out of arm’s reach. There are many Scripture verses that show us.
“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, You are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me, Your right hand will hold me fast.” (Psalm 139:7-10 NIV)
I love these verses as they paint a vivid picture of how our Lord is holding onto us no matter where we are. Throughout all the depth and breadth of our world, God never leaves us. He is forever there to guide us.

Scripture goes beyond these points to explain some amazing promises when we seek God:
“I love those who love Me, and those who seek Me find Me.” (Proverbs 8:17 NIV)
“You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13 NIV)
This is not an “if” situation. We are promised that when we seek God, we WILL find Him. God is not about to make us a merry chase to get close to Him. He is ready to respond to our cries, whether they are pleading requests or joyous praises.
The Jeremiah verse further develops this idea with the recommendation that we seek God with all our hearts. This means we need to be looking for God, not as some magic genie to give us exactly what we want, but instead as a means of guiding us through whatever situation we are dealing with.
God is not just acting interested when we come looking for Him. He comes to us in amidst our complexities, insecurities, and misdirection. Our Lord isn’t afraid of the messy aspects of our lives. Other than when we are in outright denial of His saving power, our Lord can minister to us in any situation.
Our God is close and personal with us. Trust Him to know your needs and provide you with what is necessary for this time and place. Remember this verse:
“Those who know Your name will trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You.” (Psalm 9:10 NIV)
He might not give us everything we think we need, but He will ensure we have what is needed for His ultimate plan for us.
